MSU Ensemble-in-Residence, Newband, presents a concert using the unique Harry Partch Instrumentarium. Works include Acadia by Elizabeth Brown, Eleven Echoes of Autumn by George Crumb, Ruby Half Moon by Dean Drummond, Sweet Air by David Lang, and Western Spaces by Annea Lockwood. Kasser Theater*

Thur. 30 — 7:30 pm MSU Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony - Thomas McCauley, conductor with Paul Cohen, saxophone - Paul Cohen will play the rarely performed original version of the Ingolf Dahl Saxophone Concerto. The Wind Symphony and MSU Symphonic Band will also perform works by Milhaud, Ticheli, Schubert, Varèse, and Wagner. Kasser Theater*

Sat. 6 — 8 pm MSU Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony - Thomas McCauley, conductor - Symphonic Sweets: The New Hudson Saxophone Quartet will appear as the featured artists on this evening of symphonic music for winds. They will perform the Flagello Concerto Sinfonico. The Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band will also perform works by Milhaud, Bach, Sousa, and Hindemith. Kasser Theater*
 
Sun. 7 — 2 pm MSU Jazz Band and MSU Vocal Jazz Ensemble - The Cali School of Music presents the MSU Jazz Band, directed by Jeffrey Kunkel, and the Vocal Jazz Ensemble, directed by Holli Ross, in a program of classic and contemporary music for jazz ensemble. Kasser Theater*
 
Sun. 7 — 8 pm University Singers – Heather J. Buchanan, conductor  with the Montclair Faculty Brass - The MSU Singers join the Montclair Faculty Brass for a concert of holiday music featuring choir and brass. Program to include Daniel Pinkham's Christmas Cantata for chorus and double brass choir, Francis Poulenc's O magnum mysterium from Quatre Motets pour le temps de Noel, Gustav Holst's Christmas Day and other favorites. The Beatrice Crawford Memorial Concert: Harry Partch Ensemble
Dean Drummond, director - The MSU Harry Partch Ensemble performs a concert of microtonal music using original instruments created by the 20th century composer Harry Partch. This free public performance is supported by a generous grant from the Keating Crawford Foundation. It is an annual event presented at Montclair State University in memory of Beatrice Crawford, a Montclair musician who was the director of two choral groups “The Madrigals” and “The Choraliers.” Kasser Theater (free admission but tickets are required)*

In celebration of his 75th anniversary and the quartet’s 25th, Shanghai performs a new composition by one of the world’s most astonishing and influential living composers, Krzysztof Penderecki. Sun. 1 — 3 pm MSU Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony - Thomas McCauley, conductor - The MSU Wind Symphony and the Bloomfield Youth Band perform a concert of diverse wind music highlighted by a performance of composer George Rochberg’s piece, Apocalyptica, written in 1964 for the then Montclair State College concert band. The Wind Symphony will be joined by the popular Bloomfield Youth Band, directed by Patrick Burns. The program will also include works by Strauss and Persichetti. Kasser Theater*

Fri. 24 — 7:30 pm MSU Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony - Thomas McCauley, conductor - Night Moves: The evening will feature a contemporary piece by composer Libby Larson titled, Introduction to the Moon, that combines music and poetry. Paul Cohen will return to play the Dahl saxophone concerto. The program also includes works by Hanson, Del Borgo, Persichetti and Rochberg. Kasser Theater*
 
Sat. 25 — 8 pm MSU Singers and Chorale Spring Concert - Heather J. Buchanan, conductor - A concert celebrating the magnificence of choral music. The program will include the MSU Singers with the world première of their choral commission by Tarik O'Regan and an a cappella choral work by George Rochberg. The 150-voice MSU Chorale will perform the Requiem by Gabriel Fauré with student soloists and organ and chamber orchestra accompaniment. Kasser Theater*

Opera Workshop - Jeffrey Gall, director - The MSU Opera Workshop presents four fully-staged performances of La finta giardiniera (The Pretend Garden Girl), the 18-year-old Mozart's brilliant exploration of passion, deception and lovesick madness. Arguably Mozart's first great opera, La finta giardiniera will be performed in Italian in collaboration with the MSU Symphony.Kasser Theater*
