The
Preparatory Center for the Arts of Montclair State
University was established in 1976 to provide
musical education and training for all age groups.
Since that time the school has attracted outstanding
faculty members from all the major performing
ensembles in the New York Metropolitan area, including
the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan and
New York City Opera companies, and the New Jersey
Symphony. Currently, the Preparatory Center for
the Arts serves approximately three hundred students
offering a comprehensive curriculum designed to
stimulate musical understanding, artistic performance
and expression in a highly individualized setting.
The Preparatory Center for the Arts is a community
of talented and dedicated students, parents, faculty
and staff working together to create a dynamic
learning environment for musical experiences.
The Prep Center offers private music study throughout the year. In addition, it sponsors the Stokes Forest Music Camp in association with the New Jersey School
of Conservation. This is an intensive summer program
held at the camp in Sussex County,
New Jersey. Students spend two weeks learning
about music, and also participating in environmental
and conservation classes.
Jazz Connections workshops are held in the McEachern Music Building on the Montclair State University campus each summer. This program for middle school,
high school, college and young professional musicians
has given hundreds of students the opportunity
to rehearse and to perform together under the
leadership of the Jazz Connections' artist/educator
faculty. The faculty represents
the finest music departments of the metropolitan
area universities including: William Paterson
and Rutgers Universities, the New School, New York University and Queens
College. Daily jazz ensembles unite students,
faculty, and guest artists in performance
collaborations. Internships are available.

Connections website for more information about
